Four DSU athletes earn DAC Softball postseason honors

Four Dakota State University softball athletes had received Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) postseason honors, announced on Monday. Three Trojan athletes were selected to DAC All-Conference team, while one DSU athlete was named to DAC Gold Glove team.
Emily Kulp, Ashley Stevenson and Amanda Stevenson were selected to DAC All-Conference team.
DSU's freshman catcher Kulp recorded a batting average of .327 with 32 hits in 98 at-bats. 
She had nine doubles and four home runs with a slugging percentage of .541. Kulp drove in 25 runs. She is the daughter of Robert and Kathleen Kulp of Orange, Calif.
Ashley Stevenson, junior second base for the Trojans, led the DAC conference in stolen bases. She swiped 19 bases in 21 attempts. Her batting average was .357 (41 hits in 115 plate appearances) with 11 doubles, one triple and two home runs. She recorded 28 RBIs with a slugging percentage of .522.
Ashley's twin sister, Amanda Stevenson, was named to DAC All-Conference outfielder. She led the team in batting average of .385 and RBIs with 30. She amassed 45 hits with six doubles and four home runs with a slugging percentage of .675. She recorded 12 stolen bases in 16 attempts.
Amanda Stevenson tied the DSU school record for most triples in a single season with eight. She also tied the DSU's career record with nine triples. According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, she leads the nation in triples per game (.205) and second in total triples.
Ashley and Amanda are the daughters of Daryl Stevenson and Stephanie Woodcock of Victoria, B.C. Canada.
DSU's junior Jesica Alcala was chosen to the DAC Gold Glove team for outstanding defense. She played shortstop for the majority of the Trojans' softball season. She recorded a fielding percentage of .943. Alcala had 174 catches with 71 put-outs, 93 assists and committed 10 errors. She turned into 11 double plays. She is 27th in the nation in assists per game (2.4). Jesica is the daughter of Alfredo and Maria Alcala of Oxnard, Calif.
Dakota State is in the final year with the DAC. The Trojans will be making a transition to the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) next season.
