Trojan Baseball signs seven recruits

Dakota State University head baseball coach Scott Hortness is excited to announce the first group of signings for the 2011-12 season. The list of seven recruits includes individuals from five different regions of North America. Within in this group of signees are two junior college transfers and five 2011 high school graduates.
From Northern Essex Community College (NECC) in Havermill, Mass., will be brothers Rays and Anyelo Roman. Both are incoming juniors who were key players in a turnaround
season for NECC, who won their state tournament in 2011 and lost in the regional play to eventual champion Manchester Community College.
Rays - 5'9" and 170 pounds - is a shortstop and lead-off batter who hit .283 in 2011. He recorded 40 runs scored, 31 stolen bases and five triples. Rays' younger brother, Anyelo - 6'1" and 190 pounds - is a corner infield and right-handed pitcher. He batted .321 with 15 doubles. He was 4-4 overall record as a pitcher with an ERA of 4.83. Anyelo recorded 51 strikeouts and 13 walks in 50 innnings. Both are graduates of Lowell, Mass.
Coming to help with the catching chores will be Colten Thurrott from Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada and Michael Miller from Desert Hot Springs, Calif. Both will be true freshmen and will be expected to challenge for most of the duties next season.
Thurrott - 5'7" and 200 pounds - is a product of the Prospects Baseball Academy and Memorial Composite High School. Miller - 5'10" and 170 pounds - is finishing his senior year at Desert Hot Springs High School.
Dillion Engle from Milwaukee, Wis. will be joinig the Trojans in the fall. Engle - 5'10" and 200 pounds - is a left-handed pitcher and first baseman from Nathan Hale High School.
Also committing to Dakota State University is JD Farley - 6'1" and 165 pounds from Winner High School in Winner, S.D. and Cody Schroeder - 6'1" and 175 pounds - from Boys Town, Neb. Both Farley and Schroeder will receive work in the fall as pitcher/outfielders looking to find their way onto the varsity roster as freshmen.
JD is the son of Rodney and Colleen Farley. Cody is the son of William and Dennette Schroeder.
