Three DSU runners compete in first day of NAIA Outdoor Track & Field national meet

Andy CoyMARION, Ind. – Three Dakota State University runners competed in the first day of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship meet on Thursday. The meet was held at the Outdoor Sports Complex, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.

Sophomore Andy Coy (Hill City, S.D.) placed fifth in the second heat of the men's 800-meter run prelims. He clocked a time of one minute and 54.69 seconds. Coy placed 20th overall and did not advance to the semifinals.  A total of 33 runners ran in the men's 800-meter run prelims. 

Devon BerknessTwo Trojan senior men's runners competed in the men's 10,000-meter run finals on Thursday night. Devon Berkness (Madison, S.D.) finished 12th overall with a new DSU school record time of 30 minutes and 37.57 seconds. Anthony Drealan (Fulda, Minn.) was 27th with a time of 31:42.98.  Fifty-four runners participated in the men's 10,000-meter run finals.

Dakota State will be off on Friday (today). Berkness, Drealan and Michael Hoffman will run in the men's marathon on Saturday early morning at 6 a.m. (ET)/5 a.m. (CT). Anthony DrealanDanielle Rowe will compete in the women's high jump on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. (ET)/1 p.m. (CT).
