DSU Volleyball announces challenging 2011 schedule

The Dakota State University volleyball announced a challenging schedule on Thursday. DSU will play a total of 36 matches, including four matches each in three early season tournaments. The Trojans will play eleven home matches. Dakota State will be in their first year with the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.).
The Trojans open the season with four matches in the Grand View Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa on Aug. 27-28.
DSU will face their first opponent from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) at Morningside on Aug. 31.
On Sept. 2-3, Dakota State competes in the second annual Corn Palace Classic in Mitchell, S.D. The Trojans will play four matches, including two former Dakota Athletic Conference members (Valley City State and Dickinson State) at the Corn Palace.
DSU's first home match will be on Sept. 7 against GPAC member Mount Marty. The Trojans then play their third tournament of the season on Sept. 9-10 in Hastings, Neb.
The annual Trojan homecoming activities will begin with home volleyball matches against former DAC members. DSU hosts Valley City State on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and South Dakota School of Mines on Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
The Trojans conclude their home schedule on Oct. 22 with a triangular with Oklahoma Wesleyan and Mayville State, starting at 10 a.m.
Dakota State will compete in the University of Sioux Falls Tournament on Oct. 28-29 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Trojans face three incoming NCAA Division II members – USF, Minot State and Lindenwood (Mo.). DSU concludes the tournament against NAIA's member, Grand View (Iowa).
DSU concludes their regular season on the road at SD School of Mines on Nov. 5.
During the 2011 season, Dakota State will have a junior varsity team. They will play a total of seven matches that include five home matches.
The A.I.I. Independent Tournament will be held on Nov. 10-12 in Phoenix, Ariz. Six teams will qualify for the independent tournament based on Kaase ratings system. The winner and runner-up of the tournament will earn automatic bids to the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament Opening Round on Nov. 19.
The winner of the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament Opening Round advances to the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. The national tournament will be held at the Tyson Center on Nov. 27 to Dec. 1.
