Local standout Spier signs to play for Trojan Volleyball
August 1, 2011
MADISON, S.D. - Dakota State University head volleyball coach Amy Veenhof is excited to announce the signing of Jaynie Spier.
Spier, 5'8" outside hitter, was an integral member of the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland volleyball team that captured the school's first ever district championship. The Raiders fell short in the region finals to eventual Class 'B' state champions Arlington.
Spier was a four-time volleyball letter winner and team captain in her senior year. She was a two-time Dakota Valley All-Conference performer. She recorded 147 kills and 132 digs in her senior season. Spier also received the 'Unsung Hero' award in her senior year.
"I'm really excited that Jaynie is coming to DSU and playing volleyball," said Veenhof. "She's such a great person and will be a great addition to the team. Jaynie played in our club program this past year and came to several of our volleyball camps during her high school career. We had had the chance to work with her and watch her develop."
Jaynie is the daughter of Kip and DaLayne Spier of Madison, S.D. She graduated from Rutland High School and plans to major in Math Education at DSU.
