DSU Football heads to Seward, Neb. for a match-up with Concordia Saturday

Dakota State travels to Seward, Neb. to take on Concordia in both teams' first-ever meeting SaturdayTHIS WEEK:  Dakota State (0-5 overall record) is searching for their first win of the season.  The Trojans travel to Seward, Neb. Saturday to battle Concordia in both teams' first-ever meeting.  Kickoff from the Bulldog Stadium is set for 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:  The Trojans lost in their annual DSU's homecoming football game versus Northwestern (Iowa).  The Red Raiders outscored the Trojans 29-0 in the third quarter and defeated DSU 63-27.  Jeb Olsen had 18 carries for 135 yards with two touchdowns.  Brandon Large was 27-for-45 for 242 yards with two touchdowns.  Concordia is currently on a two-game winning streak after losing their first two games of the season.  The Bulldogs defeated Dordt 21-7 on the road last Saturday.

FOOTBALL FORECAST:  Saturday's forecast calls for a high of 70 degrees and a sunny sky in Seward, Neb.

NAIA DAKSTATS NATIONAL RANKINGS:  Robert Ortiz ranks first in the nation in kickoff return yards with 783 and all-purpose yards with 1023.  Ortiz is first in the nation in all-purpose yards per game with an average of 204.6 yards.  Wes Dauz is second in the nation in total receptions with 32.  Craig Hertz ranks sixth in tackles (all positions) with 10.6 tackles per game.  DeVonte Garcia is sixth in the nation in total interceptions with three.  Jeb Olsen records 444 rushing yards, which is sixth in the nation.  Brandon Large is ninth in the nation in total passing yards with 1073.  As a team, Dakota State is 12th in the nation in total pass offense (1073) and 22nd in the nation in kickoff return yards per attempt with an average of 21.1 yards.

DSU QUICK LEADERS:  Jeb Olsen leads the team in rushing with a total of 444 yards, an average of 88.8 yards per game.  Brandon Large averages 214.6 passing yards with a completion percentage of 57.0.  Wes Dauz leads the team with 32 receptions.  Craig Hertz records 53 tackles for the Trojans.  Josh Licht records two quarterback sacks this season for DSU.

RUSHING STREAK:  Through five games this season, Dakota State had recorded over 100 yards in rushing.  The Trojans rushed over 100 yards in three games out of ten games in 2010.  DSU had 117 rushing yards versus Dakota Wesleyan, 170 at Valley City State and 151 versus Northwestern (Iowa).

FIRST DOWNS RECORD:  Dakota State recorded 31 first downs in a 44-27 loss to Valley City State on Sept. 17.  It was the most first downs in school history, previously set on Oct. 23, 2010 with 30 first downs versus Jamestown at Trojan Field.

DSU FOOTBALL HISTORY LESSON:  Dakota State is in its 92nd year of competition.  The Trojans own an all-time record of 267-442-17.  DSU opened their first year of competition in 1908 with an overall record of 4-1-1.
