Garner going for 400 career wins

DSU Men's Basketball Head Coach Gary GarnerMADISON, S.D. - Dakota State men's basketball head coach, Gary Garner, will be vying for his 400th career collegiate win on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at home against Grace College (Neb.).

This will be Garner's third season at Dakota State as head basketball coach.  Garner coached for six seasons at Fort Hays State University (FHSU) from 1991-1997.  FHSU captured their first ever NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship with a perfect 34-0 record in Garner's fifth season.

Garner has also coached at Kempe Military Academy, Missouri Southern State College, Drake University and Southeast Missouri State.  He became head coach at DSU in 2009 and led the Trojans to their first winning season since 1993 with an overall record of 15-14.  Garner was also recently inducted in the 2011 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Hall of Fame.

The Trojans will play their season opener versus Grace College from Omaha, Neb. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.  They will then travel to take on Mayville State in Mayville, N.D. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
