Trojan women’s hoopsters play two games this week

THIS WEEK: Dakota State (1-1 overall record) looks to bounce back in the winning column as the women's basketball team plays two games this week. The Trojans travel to Cimpl Arena in Yankton, S.D. Tuesday for a game versus in-state rival Mount Marty (2-1) at 7 p.m. DSU returns back to DSU Fieldhouse on Friday afternoon as they host York (Neb.) College at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: After DSU's 83-35 season opener win over Grace (Neb.) on Nov. 1, the Trojans suffered an 87-62 road decision to former Dakota Athletic Conference foe Mayville State on Nov. 5. Mount Marty opened their season with a 101-42 rout over Oglala Lakota College on Nov. 2. The Lancers defeated William Penn (Iowa) 89-68 on Nov. 4 and suffered a 70-55 defeat to Bethel (Ind.) as part of the two-day Midland Classic in Fremont, Neb. York (Neb.) suffered a season-opening loss to Hastings 72-42 on Oct. 29 and suffered a 68-50 defeat to Concordia (Neb.) on Oct. 31.
LAST MEETING: Mount Marty had won the last six meetings with Dakota State. The last time DSU defeated the Lancers (68-62) was on Dec. 30, 2004 at DSU Fieldhouse. In both teams' last meeting on Dec. 6, 2010 at DSU Fieldhouse, the Lancers used their second-half surge to defeat the Trojans 59-55. Dakota State won the last meeting with York 54-44 in York, Neb. on Nov. 27, 2010.
DSU RANKS NATIONALLY: As a team, Dakota State ranks 10th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (31.3) and 21st in 3-point field goal percentage defense (21.7). The Trojans are 19th in the nation in field goal percentage (43.1) and assists per game (16.5).
QUICK LEADERS: Sharee Galbraith leads the Trojans with an average of 15.5 points per game and shoots 52 percent from the field. She ranks fourth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (5.5). Courtney Hamblin records 21 rebounds (10.5 rebounds per game) and ranks 11th in the nation in rebounds per game. She also ranks 11th in defensive rebounds per game (7.5). Hamblin leads DSU with two blocked shots and seven assists (3.5 assists per game). Jayda Swenson records five steals (2.5 steals per game) for the Trojans. She ranks fourth in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 6.0.
COACHES' CORNER: Joe Reints, a native of Willow Lake, S.D., enters his fourth season at the Trojan helm. He currently holds a 93-99 career coaching record. Reints comes to DSU from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn. where he served as head coach of the Lady Eagles, an NAIA Division I school, for three seasons. The Lady Eagles earned the 2007 NAIA Division I National Championship. Reints had additional coaching experience with Mount Marty College, Northern State University and Texas State University.
COACH STOEBNER: Chris Stoebner returns back to South Dakota after being an assistant men's basketball coach at St. Olaf (Minn.) last season. Prior to St. Olaf, he was the girls' basketball head coach and guidance counselor at Orono High School in Long Lake, Minn. for three years. Stoebner played for South Dakota State University Jackrabbit men's basketball team during his four-year collegiate career and qualified to the regional tournament in each year. He was named to All-Conference team in his senior year and earned North Central Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention in 2002 and 2003.
