DSU women’s basketball team looks to rebound this week

THIS WEEK: Dakota State (1-3 overall record) looks to rebound this week as the y play a pair of games. The Trojans attempt to snap their three-game losing streak as DSU faces their in-state rivalry Dakota Wesleyan (2-1) at DSU Fieldhouse on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. On Saturday, DSU travels to Ellendale, N.D. to take on Trinity Bible College (3-1). Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse.
LAST TIME OUT: The Trojans suffered a pair of defeats last week. Dakota State suffered a 70-49 decision at Mount Marty on Nov. 8 in Yankton, S.D. The Trojans returned home on Nov. 11 and fell short to York (Neb.) 60-53. Dakota Wesleyan split a pair of weekend games at Corn Palace against Dakota Athletic Conference members. The Tigers suffered a 96-52 loss to Jamestown on Nov 11. DWU bounced back and defeated Valley City State 76-71 on Saturday. Trinity Bible beat Turtle Mountain Community College 57-48 on Nov. 8 in their only game last week.
LAST MEETING: Dakota State and Dakota Wesleyan split their two meetings last season with each team winning on its home court. DSU defeated the Tigers 78-73 in both teams season's opener on Nov. 2, 2010 at DSU Fieldhosue. DWU won the second meeting at the Corn Palace on Jan. 3, 2011 by the score of 70-52. Dakota State won the last meeting with Trinity Bible – 90-37 in Ellendale on Nov. 19, 2010.
KEEP REBOUNDING: As a team, Dakota State ranks 24th in the nation in total rebounds per game (44.0), 29th in defensive rebounds per game (28.8) and 32nd in offensive rebounds per game (15.3). DSU is 32nd in the nation in total rebound margin with a plus-4.75.
STEP UP DEFENSE: Dakota State is 32nd in the nation in 3-point field goal defense percentage (26.7) and 34th in field goal percentage defense (34.9).
QUICK LEADERS: Sharee Galbraith leads the Trojans with an average of 11.3 points per game and shoots 51.4 percent from the field. She leads the team with 9.5 rebounds per game, which is 23rd in the nation. She ranks ninth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (4.8). Courtney Hamblin records 14 assists (3.5 average) for DSU. She ranks 29th in the nation in rebounds per game (9.0). Julie Munson averages two steals per game (eight total steals).
COACHES' CORNER: Joe Reints, a native of Willow Lake, S.D., enters his fourth season at the Trojan helm. He currently holds a 93-99 career coaching record. Reints comes to DSU from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn. where he served as head coach of the Lady Eagles, an NAIA Division I school, for three seasons. The Lady Eagles earned the 2007 NAIA Division I National Championship. Reints had additional coaching experience with Mount Marty College, Northern State University and Texas State University.
COACH STOEBNER: Chris Stoebner returns back to South Dakota after being an assistant men's basketball coach at St. Olaf (Minn.) last season. Prior to St. Olaf, he was the girls' basketball head coach and guidance counselor at Orono High School in Long Lake, Minn. for three years. Stoebner played for South Dakota State University Jackrabbit men's basketball team during his four-year collegiate career and qualified to the regional tournament in each year. He was named to All-Conference team in his senior year and earned North Central Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention in 2002 and 2003.
