NSU tested by Trojan men’s basketball, DSU falls short in exhibition game

Jesse Bean poured in 30 points in DSU's 84-77 exhibition game loss to Northern StateABERDEEN, S.D. - Dakota State men's basketball team jumped to a one-point lead at halftime, but Northern State rallied in the second-half to defeat Trojans 84-77 in DSU's exhibition game Friday night at Barnett Center.

Dakota State remained at 3-3 overall record.  NSU, a member of NCAA Division II and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), remained undefeated in two games.

DSU shot 53.6 percent from the field (15-for-28) in the first-half as the Trojans grabbed a 41-40 halftime lead.  The Trojans converted nine 3-point shots in 13 attempts.  NSU was 50 percent from the field (17-for-34).

The Wolves used a 13-2 run to open the second-half to take a 53-43 lead with 17 minutes and 15 seconds left in regulation.

Northern State extended to their largest lead of the game at 66-51 with less than ten minutes remaining in the game.

Dakota State answered with a 23-10 run to trim their deficit to 76-74 with 1:46 remaining.

NSU secured the game with an 8-3 closing run.

Jesse Bean poured in 30 points for DSU.  He was 11-for-20 from the field, including 5-for-9 from the 3-point arc.  Donald Stewart added 16 points and recorded four steals.  Luke Lamb scored 13 points off the bench and pulled down five rebounds.  Stephen Klekas dished out six assists.  Keith Lee had five rebounds.

For the Wolves, Dustin Tetzlaff had 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double.  He was 11-for-16 from the field.  Collin Pryor and Jared Hannigan each added 12 points.  Pryor had eight rebounds and five assists. 

NSU shot 51.7 percent overall from the field (31-for-60) compared to DSU 46.6 percent (27-for-58).

Northern State outrebounded the Trojans 40-27. 

Dakota State returns back to regular-season action on Saturday night.  The Trojans take on Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, N.D.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse.
