Dakota State falls to Augustana in men's basketball exhibition action

Dakota State lost a 81-69 decision to NCAA Division II Augustana Tuesday night at Elmen CenterSIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Dakota State looks to repeat from last year's exhibition win over NCAA Division II Augustana Tuesday night at Elmen Center.  The Trojans raced to an 11-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game, but the 16th-ranked Vikings get a combined 44 points points from Drae Muray and Cody Schilling to defeat DSU 83-69.

It was an exhibition action for Dakota State as they remain at 4-3 overall record.  Augustana improved their record to 3-1.

The Trojans used four different players (Spencer Adams, Jesse Bean and Stephen Klekas) to score the first 11 points of the game in the first two minutes and 24 seconds of the game.

Augustana tied the game at 20-20 with a 3-pointer from Murray with 10:41 left in the first-half.

With the Vikings leading at 30-29 with less than seven minutes before intermission, Murray scored seven straight points to extend AC's lead to 37-29 in a span of one minute.

Augustana used another spurt with a 10-0 scoring run to expand their lead to 47-33 with less than one and one-half minute before halftime.

Luke Lamb made a 3-point play (a jumper and a free-throw) as the Vikings take a 47-36 halftime lead.

The Vikings shot 58.1 percent (18-for-31) from the field compared to the Trojans' 48.3 percent (14-for-29).

Dakota State could get no closer than ten points (49-39) with 18:51 remaining in the game. AC outscored the Trojans 36-33 in the final twenty minutes of the game.

Lamb scored 14 points off the bench for the Trojans. Jesse Bean added nine points. Cameron Krump had six points and grabbed nine rebounds. Spencer Adams tallied nine points and dished out four assists.

Murray and Schilling each scored 22 points for the Vikings. Murray recorded a game-high eight assists. He grabbed six rebounds. Schilling had five rebounds.

Augustana shot 56.4 percent overall from the field (31-for-55) compared to DSU 42.1 percent (24-for-57). The Vikings converted 11 3-point shots in 18 attempts (61.1 percent) as the Trojans made five 3-pointers in 13 attempts (38.5 percent).

DSU outrebounded the Vikings 33-30.

Dakota State returns back to regular-season action this weekend as they play in the two-day Hampton Inn Classic this weekend. The Trojans play York (Neb.) of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference on Friday at 5 p.m.
