DSU falls to No. 4 Bellevue (Neb.) in Hampton Inn Classic

Jesse BeanBELLEVUE, Neb. – The Dakota State University men's basketball team faced a NAIA Division II Men's Basketball preseason nationally-ranked team for the third time this month on Saturday evening. The Trojans dropped an 85-65 contest to host-team No. 4 Bellevue (Neb.) in the Hampton Inn Classic at Gordon Lozier Center.

The loss dropped DSU's overall record to 5-4. The Bruins raised their record to 6-3.

Dakota State jumped to a 13-7 lead with fourteen minutes and eighteen seconds left in the first-half. Bellevue answered with a 20-4 run into a 27-17 lead with less than ten minutes before intermission.

Cameron KrumpThe Bruins were able to score the final five points of the first-half as they grabbed a 47-31 halftime lead.

Bellevue drained 10 3-pointers in 13 attempts in the first twenty minutes of the game compared to the Trojans' 3-for-10.

In the opening minutes of the second-half, the Bruins extended their lead to 56-35 with 15 minutes left in regulation.

DSU used a 21-9 run to trim their deficit into single digit (65-56) with 6:21 remaining.

Bellevue secured the victory with a 20-9 closing run.

Cameron Krump and Jesse Bean each had 13 points for Dakota State. Luke Lamb added 12 points off the bench. Spencer Adams had seven points and pulled down seven rebounds. Donald Stewart scored six points and dished out four assists.

James Parrott had 24 points for the Bruins. He was 9-for-15 from the field, including 3-for-7 from the 3-point arc. Parrot converted 3-of-4 free-throws. Jeremy Arrington added 18 points. Richard Shepard had 15 points and dished out four assists. Blake Zamudio scored 13 points off the bench. Jelani Johnson recorded five assists and five steals.

Bellevue shot 49.1 percent overall from the field (28-for-57) compared to DSU's 45.3 percent (24-for-53). The Bruins drilled 15 3-pointers in 24 attempts (62.5 percent), while the Trojans made seven 3-pointers in 21 attempts (33.3 percent).

Both teams had 31 rebounds in the game.

Dakota State continues their action on the road on Wednesday night. The Trojans travel to Des Monies, Iowa to take on AIB College of Business. Tip-off from the AIB Activities Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
