Trojans win first-ever meeting with AIB, record sixth win of the season

Jesse BeanDES MOINES, Iowa – Dakota State drained 11 3-pointers Wednesday night as the Trojans earned a 75-54 road win over AIB at the AIB Activities Center.  It was both teams' first-ever meeting in school history.

DSU improved their overall record to 6-4.  The Trojans are currently 3-1 on the road.  AIB, which established their first men's basketball team this year in school history, remained winless in ten games.

Dakota State built a 20-10 lead with thirteen minutes and ten seconds left in the first-half.  Luke LambThe Trojans were able to extend their lead to 34-16 with less than seven minutes before intermission.

The Eagles closed the first-half with a 16-4 run as DSU maintained a six-point halftime lead (38-32).

AIB used a 9-3 second-half's opening run to tie the game at 41-41 with 17:06 left in regulation.

At 45-45, the Trojans went on a 9-0 scoring tear to regain their lead at 54-45 with less than ten minutes remaining in the game.

DSU sealed the victory with a 21-5 closing run.

Jesse Bean scored 20 points for the Trojans.  He was 7-for-19 from the field, including 2-for-7 from the 3-point arc.  Bean was 4-foro-4 from the free-throw line.  He dished out three assists and pulled down six rebounds.  Luke Lamb added 19 points on his 7-for-11 shooting from the field.  He nailed down five 3-pointers in eight attempts.  Lamb had six rebounds.  Jordan Snyder scored 12 points off the bench and earned eight rebounds.

For AIB, Brandon Eley had 22 points and five rebounds.  He dished out four assists.  Matej Culjak had 11 points and four steals.  He grabbed six rebounds. 

Dakota State shot 44.8 percent from the field (26-for-58) compared to the Eagles' 35.8 percent (19-for-53).  The Trojans were 11-for-23 from the 3-point line (47.8 percent), while AIB converted 3-of-17 3-pointers (17.6 percent).

DSU outrebounded the Eagles 38-34.

AIB committed 21 turnovers compared to the Trojans' 15.

Both teams will meet for their second meeting of the season on Dec. 30 at DSU Fieldhouse.

Dakota State returns home at DSU Fieldhouse on Saturday night.  The Trojans face their former Dakota Athletic Conference foe Mayville State for both teams' second meeting of the season (DSU defeated the Comets 81-61 on Nov. 5 in Mayville, N.D.).  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. or 25 minutes after the completion of the women's basketball game.
