DSU Football shatters records during 2011 season

Brandon LargeMADISON, S.D. - Dakota State University football team shattered individual and team records during the 2011 season.

Brandon Large (junior - Mesa, Ariz.) had broken five new DSU school records.  He recorded the most passing attempts in a single season with 405 (previously held by current DSU's assistant football coach Tom Nielsen with 377 in 2003).  In addition, Large amassed 228 pass completions - the most completions in a single season since Justin Thielke set in 1999 with 199 completions.

Large accumulated a total of 2,512 offensive yards in a single season, the most offensive yards since 1999, which was set by Thielke with 2,486 yards.

Large completed 31 passes in a single game twice, which tied the most completions in a single game - at Valley City State on Sept. 17 and at Concordia (Neb.) on Oct. 1.  He broke a new school record for most touchdowns in a single season with 22 (20 passing and two rushing).

Craig Hertz (junior Ocheyedan, Iowa) had the second-most tackles in a single game in the DSU record book with 22 tackles versus Doane on Sept. 10.  Jordan Mattern (freshman - Harrisburg, S.D.) tied the third-most tackles in a single game with 16 tackles at South Dakota Mines on Oct. 29.

Dakota State set a new school record for most first-downs in a single season with 184, breaking an old mark of 172 in 1993.  The Trojans also broke a new record in most first-downs in a single game with 31 at Valley City State on Sept. 17.

In addition, DSU set a new team record for most completions in a single game with 31 twice (at Valley City State and at Concordia (Neb.) on Oct. 1) and in a single season with 229 completions.  The Trojans recorded 407 passing attempts, the second-most attempts in a single season.
