Garner to be inducted in Fort Hays State Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday

Coach Gary GarnerMADISON, S.D. - Dakota State University men's basketball head coach Gary Garner will be inducted into an Athletic Hall of Fame for the second time in 2011.

Garner is heading to Hays, Kan. to reunite with the members of the 1995-96 undefeated Fort Hays State National Championship team this Saturday, Dec. 10.  The team and Coach Garner will be inducted into the Fort Hays State Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday morning.  They will be recognized at the Tigers' basketball games on Saturday afternoon versus Missouri Western.

Garner guided the Tigers to a perfect 34-0 record, defeating Northern Kentucky in the NCAA Division II men's basketball title game.  It was Fort Hays State's first and only NCAA championship to date in any sport.  Garner's record of 63-2 was the best among collegiate coaches during 1995-1997.

Earlier this summer, Garner was inducted in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.
