No. 19 Saint Mary (Neb.) tops Dakota State in women’s basketball

OMAHA, Neb. – Nationally-ranked Saint Mary (Neb.) made 12 3-pointers and limited Dakota State to 27.1 percent overall shooting as the Flames defeated Trojans 84-51 in women's basketball game at Lied Fitness Center Friday night.
Dakota State dropped their overall record to 3-7. Saint Mary, ranked No. 19 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll, raised their record to 11-3.
With DSU leading at 9-8 with less than 14 minutes in the first-half, the Flames used a 24-3 run in a span of 10 minutes to grab a 32-12 lead.
Saint Mary held a 42-21 halftime lead. The Flames shot 48.5 percent from the field (16-for-33), including 6-for-14 from the 3-point range in the first-half. DSU was 7-for-30 (23.3 percent) from the field and 2-for-10 from the 3-point arc (20 percent).
CSM outscored the Trojans 42-30 in the second-half.
Jayda Swenson led DSU's scorer with 12 points. She pulled down six rebounds. Kylie Westover and Courtney Hamblin each added eight points. Katy Pillar had six points and earned eight rebounds.
Tiffany Anzalone scored 19 points off the bench for the Flames. She was 7-for-12 from the field and drained five 3-pointers in eight attempts. Anzalone recorded eight rebounds. Theresa Elworth added 15 points. Karyn Bixler had 13 points. Four players recorded four assists – Elworth, Abby Zach and Ashley Ross.
The Trojans were 16-for-59 from the field compared to CSM's 34-for-62 (54.8 percent). Saint Mary was 12-for-26 from the 3-point line (46.2 percent), while DSU was 3-for-17 (17.6 percent).
DSU went to the free-throw line 22 times, converting 16 free-throws (72.7 percent). The Flames were 4-for-5 from the free-throw line (80 percent).
CSM outrebounded the Trojans 37-29.
Dakota State returns home at DSU Fieldhouse on Friday, Dec. 16. The Trojans host the University of Minnesota-Morris with a game starting time at 7 p.m.
