Dakota State men's basketball team returns back to action this week

THIS WEEK: After taking a week off, Dakota State (7-4 overall record) returns back to action on Monday night. The Trojans play an exhibition game at NCAA Division I South Dakota State (8-3, 2-0 Summit League). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D. DSU returns back to regular-season action as they host nationally-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) (7-3) on Saturday night. The starting game time is slated for 7 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.
LAST MEETING: The last South Dakota State's regular-season action versus Dakota State was on Nov. 25, 2000 at the Frost Arena. The Jackrabbits outscored the Trojans 45-25 in the first-half and defeated DSU 87-51. Both teams had met in an exhibition action last season on Nov 1, 2010 at Frost Arena, won by SDSU by the score of 82-63. South Dakota State is 18-4 all-time versus Dakota State. DSU's last win versus the Jackrabbits was during the 1934 season where the Trojans won 35-34. Bellevue, a member of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference, took the first meeting from DSU 85-65 in the Hampton Inn Classic on Nov. 26 in Bellevue, Neb. Cameron Krump and Jesse Bean each had 13 points for the Trojans. Jame Parrott scored 24 points and Jeremy Arrington added 18 points for the Bruins.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State's last game was on Dec. 3 at home. The Trojans shot a sizzling 73.9 percent from the field (17-for-23) in the second-half to defeat Mayville State 68-57 to sweep the season series with the Comets. South Dakota State opened with a 15-0 run and never trailed in 92-54 win over UND on Dec. 10 at Frost Arena. Bellevue earned a road win over William Penn 76-57 on Dec. 5. The Bruins will play a home game versus Midland on Dec. 14 before making a trip to Madison on Saturday.
NAIA NATIONAL RANKINGS: As of Monday, Dec. 5, Dakota State received votes to the second regular-season NAIA Division II Men's Basketball national poll. The last time DSU earned a recognition to the national poll was on Dec. 13, 2010. Dakota State recorded its best start in more than 15 years. Bellevue, who was ranked No. 4 in the preseason ranking, is currently at No. 9.
HALL OF FAME: DSU's head coach Gary Garner had been inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame for the second time this year. He was recently reunited with the 1995-96 undefeated Fort Hays State national championship men's basketball team last Saturday. His team completed a perfect 34-0 record during the championship season, defeating Northern
Kentucky in the NCAA Division II championship title game. Garner's record of 63-2 was the best among collegiate coaches during 1995-97 seasons.
LAMB EARNS HONOR: The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) has selected Dakota State men's basketball Luke Lamb as its Male Athlete of the Week, announced on Dec. 5. He finished the week (Nov. 28-Dec. 3) with 36 points, nine rebounds and six assists in leading DSU to a pair of wins over AIB (Iowa) and Mayville State. Lamb converted 14 of his 22 shots (63.6 percent), along with seven 3-pointers.

UP NEXT: Dakota State will play one more game before Christmas. The Trojans head to the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. to face their in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan on Monday, Dec. 19. The game will be broadcast live on Midco Sports Network channel. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. DWU won the first meeting from the Trojans 70-69 in Madison on Nov. 15.
