Kruggel named to Capital One Academic All-America® Third Team

TOWSON, Md. – Senior right-side hitter Stephanie Kruggel of Dakota State (S.D.) was selected to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kruggel, who has a 3.80 G.P.A. as an Elementary Education major, was chosen to the third team.
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® volleyball team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. Junior setter Paula Ferreira (Mo.) was chosen as the winner of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award.
Recently, Kruggel earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete for her second straight year. She finished her stellar four-year career at Dakota State and earned numerous athletic and academic awards.
Kruggel was named to Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) All-Conference. She was one of the integral members of the DSU volleyball team that qualified to the A.I.I. volleyball postseason tournament in Phoenix in November. She made to the A.I.I. All-Tournament team after the postseason tournament was completed.
During the season, Kruggel smashed her 1000th career kill at DSU in 3-1 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Oct. 22. She amassed 514 kills (3rd best in DSU's volleyball record book for most kills in a single season), 36 service aces, 412 digs and 88 blocks during the 2011 season.
Kruggel played all positions in her career at Dakota State. She accumulated 1123 kills (3rd best in DSU's volleyball record book for most career kills), 903 set assists, 128 service aces, 1308 digs and 250 total blocks during her career as a Trojan.
Stephanie is the daughter of Gary and Lori Kruggel of Winthrop, Minn.
