Trojan women's basketball visits Midland Saturday, returns home Sunday

THIS WEEK: Dakota State (5-8 overall) continues their busy 2012 schedule this weekend. The Trojans travel to Midland Events Center on Saturday afternoon for a match-up with Midland (Neb.) (6-11). Tip-off from Fremont, Neb. is set for 2 p.m. On Sunday, DSU returns home to host their former Dakota Athletic Conference foe Valley City State (11-8). The Trojans and Vikings battle out at DSU Fieldhouse with a tip-off starting at 5:30 p.m.
LAST MEETING: DSU and Midland split their last two meetings during 2008-09 season. The Warriors won the first meeting on Nov. 7, 2008 as part of the University of Sioux Falls Classic by the score of 65-63. Both teams met again on Jan. 1, 2009 in Fremont, Neb. Midland won the game by the score of 87-79, but it was declared a forfeit by Warriors as DSU gained a 2-0 forfeit win over Midland. Valley City State won the last three meetings from the Trojans, including a season sweep last season (88-54 on Jan. 22, 2011 and 76-67 on Feb. 18, 2011 in Madison, S.D.). The last time DSU defeated the Vikings was on Jan. 26, 2010 at DSU Fieldhouse where the Trojans held on for a 77-75 victory.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State finished the month of December undefeated at home with a 74-69 overtime thriller over AIB (Iowa) on Dec. 30. The Trojans suffered a road defeat to nationally-ranked Jamestown 66-43 on Jan. 3. DSU dropped an exhibition game to NCAA Division I North Dakota State 92-48 on Jan. 4. Midland dropped their ninth straight conference loss Wednesday night as they suffered a 76-60 road defeat at Dakota Wesleyan. Valley City State recorded their sixth straight win with a 63-49 road win at University of Minnesota-Morris on Wednesday.
TROJANS UNDEFEATED IN OVERTIMES: The Trojans are undefeated in overtimes this season. Dakota State is 2-0 in overtimes played. DSU outscored the opponents 20-8 in overtimes, including wins over Mayville State 67-60 on Dec. 3 and AIB (Iowa) 74-69 on Dec. 30 at DSU Fieldhouse.
COACHING MILESTONE: DSU women's basketball head coach Joe Reints is one win away for recording his 100th collegiate career win.
TROJANS RANK NATIONALLY: According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Jan. 5, Dakota State ranks 23rd in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage defense (27 percent), 37th in defensive rebounds per game (27.6), 38th in total rebounds margin (+2.3) and 41st in total rebounds per game (40.5).
DSU QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Trojans in scoring with an average of 11.4 points per game. Jayda Swenson records 86 rebounds (6.6 average) this season. Courtney Hamblin averages 2.6 assists (34 total). Julie Munson leads the team in steals with 21 (2.1 steals per game).
