Dakota State returns back to action at Dordt College Open Saturday

THIS WEEK: The Dakota State University indoor track and field teams travel to Sioux Center, Iowa Saturday for the Dordt College Open. The meet will be held at the Dordt's Recreation Center.
LAST TIME OUT: The Trojans crowed three individual titles at the Wildcat Preseason Open, hosted by Wayne State College on Dec. 3 in Wayne, Neb. The men's dominated the one-mile run event led by senior Matt Fideler. He finished with a time of four minutes and 24.76 seconds, which is one second short of provisional national qualifying standard mark. Summer Bronson won the women's 60-meter hurdles in 10.11 seconds. In the women's 400-meter dash, Stephanie Uher captured a first-place finish in 1:03.70. Ryan Gimbel set a new DSU school record in men's weight throw with a measurement of 43 feet and three inches.
BACK IN ACTION: Dakota State gets back into full swing of their season Saturday after taking over a month off from team competition. DSU's last competition was on Dec. 3 as they participated in the WSC Preseason Open. The Trojans will have a track meet on every Saturday, starting this Saturday until Feb. 18.
WHAT COACH STEVENSON SAYS: "We are anxious to go down and get a meet under our belt to see where we are at after the extended break, and get our season going."
DORDT COLLEGE OPEN: The Dordt College Open kicks off at 9:45 a.m. with the women's long jump, men's pole vault, women's weight throw and men's high jump. The running event begins at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 1000-meter run, followed by the men's 1000-meter race. Beside Dakota State and host-team Dordt, teams expected to compete in the meet are Briar Cliff, Dakota Wesleyan, Morningside, Mount Marty, Northwestern (Iowa) and University of Sioux Falls.
COACHES' CORNER: Dakota State University track and field head coach Buzz Stevenson has been involved in sports since his high school days in Ipswich, S.D. and has been a coach and teacher for 45 years. While at DSU, Stevenson has garnered 14 South Dakota-Iowa Conference Coach of the Year titles and two NAIA Great Plains regional cross-country coach of the year awards. He has accumulated 14 SDIC championships and his athletes have produced 57 All-American honors. Anthony Drealan is in his first year as an assistant coach in track and field. Al Weisbecker joins the coaching staff as an assistant coach as a thrower's coach. Cody Foreman is a student assistant track and field coach.
UP NEXT: Dakota State will be taking partial team members to the Iowa State Open on Jan. 20-21 in Ames, Iowa. The majority of the Trojans' team will compete in the Wildcat Open in Wayne, Neb. on Jan. 21.
