Fideler receives A.I.I. Male Athlete of the Week honor

Matt FidelerMADISON, S.D. - The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) has selected Dakota State's Matt Fideler as its Male Athlete of the Week honor, announced Monday morning.

Fideler, a senior distance runner from Volga, S.D., qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships after capturing the men's 3000-meter run at the Dordt College Open on Jan. 14.  Fideler won the event with a time of eight minutes and 44.45 seconds, nearly 20 seconds ahead of his closest competitor in the 21-runner field.

Fideler will be making his third appearance to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships during his tenure at Dakota State.  He was a member of the distance medley and 4 x 800-meter relays that earned All-American honors in 2010.

The NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships will be held in Geneva, Ohio on March 3-5.

Matt is the son of Kenneth and JoAnn Fideler.  He is studying Business Management and Accounting at Dakota State University.
