Holland joins DSU Baseball team
January 24, 2012
MADISON, S.D. - Kyle Holland (a transfer from Manchester Community College in Connecticut) has joined the Dakota State University baseball team for the 2012 season. He is expected to be one of the several new additions to the Trojans' team that is cautiously optimistic.
As a freshman in 2011, Holland won the national respect for his defensive work behind the plate, receiving both the Rawlings Gold Glove Award and the Easton Gold Glove Award as top catcher in Division III of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Holland is well deserving of the awards after throwing out 60 percent (17-of-28) of base runners who attempted to steal a base while he was behind the plate. He ended the 2011 season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 43 games.
Proving to be more than a one-dimensional player, Holland compiled a .312 batting average and stole the bases 22 times for the Cougars, who advanced to the Division III World Series in Tyler, Texas.
The Trojans begin their 2012 season on Feb. 18 as they kick-off with a doubleheader in Ottawa, Kan.
