DSU men's basketball looks to remain undefeated in current five-game home stand

THIS WEEK: Dakota State (12-9 overall record) looks to remain undefeated in their current five-game home stand. The Trojans continues their home stand on Friday night as they host Trinity Bible (N.D.) (10-12). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.
LAST MEETING: DSU limited Trinity Bible to 29.1 percent shooting from the field on Nov. 19, 2011 as the Trojans defeated the Lions 72-48 in Ellendale, N.D. The Trojans raced to a 36-18 halftime lead. Luke Lamb had 22 points for Dakota State. Cameron Krump added 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Mikey Rosario had 15 points for the Lions. DSU shot 45.2 percent overall from the field. The Trojans were 10-for-31 from the 3-point line compared to Trinity Bible 5-for-19. Dakota State outrebounded the Lions 50-31.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State went 2-1 for the week last week. The Trojans suffered an 83-57 defeat at University of Sioux Falls on Jan. 17. DSU bounced back in the winning column at DSU Fieldhouse last weekend, defeating Black Hills State 79-70 on Jan. 20 and South Dakota Mines 85-69 on Jan. 21. Trinity Bible, a member of the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC) split a pair of games with St. Cloud Tech last weekend that each game was decided by three points. The Lions lost the first game on Jan. 20 by the score of 82-79, but bounced back to defeat St. Cloud Tech on Jan. 21 with the score of 90-87. Trinity Bible traveled to Bismarck, N.D. to face United Tribes Tech on Jan. 23 (no score available) and hosts University of Minnesota-Morris Tuesday (tonight).
DSU SWEEPS BLACK HILLS TEAMS: DSU recorded a weekend sweep over two NCAA Division II teams last weekend at DSU Fieldhouse. The Trojans defeated two former Dakota Athletic Conference foes, Black Hills State (79-70 on Jan. 20) and South Dakota Mines (85-69 on Jan. 21). It was the first time since 2005 (Jan. 28-29) that Dakota State had swept two Black Hills teams on the same weekend.
RECORDS VS. FORMER DAC: The Trojans are 4-2 versus former Dakota Athletic Conference foes this season, defeating Mayville State twice, Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines. Dakota State will face Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines on the weekend of Feb. 17-18 in western South Dakota. Trinity Bible is winless in five games against former DAC members, losing to Mayville State twice, Dakota State, Jamestown and Valley City State.
HISTORY LESSON: The Trojans recorded its double-digit wins for their third straight seasons (12 wins this season, 15 in 2010-11 and 11 in 2009-10) for the first time since the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Dakota State recorded six straight seasons of double-digits wins, starting in 1988-89 (10 wins). The Trojans had 17 wins in 1989-90, 20 in 1990-91, 19 in 1991-92, 14 in 1992-93 and 1993-94.
DSU RANKS NATIONALLY: According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Tuesday, Jan. 24, Dakota State ranks 38th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (43.1 percent) and field goal percentage (45.9 percent). The Trojans are 40th in the nation in total assists (301), 43rd in scoring defense per game (69.7) and total rebound margin (+2.7) and 46th in total rebounds per game (37.0).
QUICK LEADERS: Jesse Bean leads the team in scoring with an average of 14.3 points per game. He shoots 46.7 percent from the field. Bean averages 2.7 assists (53 total). Keith Biggers records 118 rebounds (6.2 average) for the Trojans. He ranks 25th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (2.9). Donald Stewart leads the team in steals with 23 (1.1 average). Spencer Adams records nine blocked shots this season (0.5 average).
