Trojans had strong performances at Dennis Young Classic

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Dakota State University indoor track and field teams traveled to the Lamberti Recreation Center/Dennis Young Track to compete in the Dennis Young Classic Saturday. The meet was hosted by Buena Vista University. Matt Fideler and Andy Coy each produced their third national qualifying event from the meet.
The Trojans dominated the men's 1000-meter run race led by Fideler. He captured the race with a time of two minutes and 30.21 seconds, which qualified for the NAIA Nationals. Michael Hoffman was seventh in 2:40.13. John Bintliff finished 9th in 2:48.80 followed by Nic Penning which finished 10th with a time of 2:50.77. Jacob Cassutt was 13th in 2:57.14.
Coy recorded a national qualifying time of 1:22.63 in the men's 600-meter run for a second-place finish. Gabe Samuelson was sixth in 1:28.28.
After capturing her first ever 600-meter race last Saturday, Stephanie Uher ran in her first-ever 800-meter run and earned a third-place finish. She finished with a time of two minutes and 25.86 seconds.
Summer Bronson placed fourth in the women's 55-meter hurdles. She clocked a time of 9.35 seconds.
Stacey Berg had three seventh-place finishes in the meet. He jumped a measurement of 21 feet and 6.75 inches in the men's long jump. He produced a time of 6.76 seconds in the 55-meter dash and 23.73 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
In throws, Ryan Gimbel threw a weight throw measurement of 42 feet and 10.25 inches for a fourth-place finish. Trevor Rossknecht was seventh with a measurement of 38 feet and 1.25 inches. Trevor Van Tilburg placed ninth (36 feet and 8.25 inches). Brittany Pearson was 7th in the women's weight throw (37 feet and 8 inches), while Shayna Dwyer was 11th (33 feet and 5.75 inches).
The DSU men's 4 x 800-meter relay (Bintliff, Hoffman, Cassutt and Penning) finished fourth with a time of 8:27.87. The Trojan men's were fifth in the 4 x 200-meter relay (Andrew Gross, Chad Pelkofer, Cordell Muilenburg and Samuelson) in 1:40.57.
Other DSU place finishers are: Dwyer (12th in shot put – 32 feet, 7.75 inches); Nate Schulz (19th in long jump – 17 feet and 8.75 inches and 32nd in 55-meter dash – 7.43 seconds); Amber Wiebenga (18th in one-mile run – 6:44.78); Jim Wynia (21st in one-mile run – 6:07.43); Joshua Scott (22nd in 400-meter dash – 57.94 seconds and 21st in 200-meter dash – 26.99 seconds); Muilenburg (14th in 600-meter run – 1:32.39); Pelkofer (14th in 55-meter hurdles – 8.95 seconds and 17th in 200-meter dash – 26.04 seconds); Sara Schultz (18th in 1000-meter run – 3:42.53);
Dakota State will take partial members to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational next weekend (Feb. 3-4) in Lincoln, Neb. The majority of the Trojan indoor track and field teams will travel to Sioux Center, Iowa to participate in the Dordt Invitational.
