Trojan indoor track and field teams had stellar performances at BVU Open

BUENA VISTA OPEN RESULTS
STORM LAKE, Iowa – Dakota State indoor track and field teams traveled to the Lamberti Recreation Center/Dennis Young Track Saturday for the second time in two weeks. The Trojans competed in the Buena Vista Open, hosted by Buena Vista University. DSU claimed two individual champions in the meet, while several Trojans' athletes had improved their personal marks.
DSU had two runners placed in the top two in the men's 3000-meter run. Matt Fideler won the title by improving his national qualifying time of eight minutes and 43.92 seconds. Michael Hoffman was second with his personal best time of 9:06.95.
Andy Coy claimed the men's 1000-meter run title. He improved his national qualifying time of two minutes and 29.54 seconds.
Nic Penning finished as runner-up in the men's one mile-run. He finished with a time of 4:39.35.
Stephanie Uher improved her personal best in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.63. She finished third in the event.
Summer Bronson recorded her personal best in the women's 55-meter hurdles. She clocked a time of 9.12 in the finals for a third-place finish.
In men's triple jump, DeVonte Garica recorded a fourth-place finish. He jumped with a measurement of 43 feet and six inches.
In weight throw, Ryan Gimbel improved his personal best and DSU school record with a measurement of 44 feet and 11.75 inches for a sixth-place finish. Trevor Rossknecht earned a seventh place finish with a personal best throw measurement of 44 feet and 6.75 inches. Trevor Van Tilburg was 10th with a measurement of 39 feet and 11.25 inches. On the women' side, Brittany Pearson recorded a throw of 39 feet and 1.75 inches for a third-place finish. Shayna Dwyer was sixth with a measurement of 35 feet and .25 inches.
Andrew Gross finished seventh in the men's pole vault with a measurement of 12 feet and 11.5 inches.
DSU women's 4 x 400-meter relay recorded a fifth-place finish with a time of 4:15.15.
Other women's place finishers are: Shannon Spurgin (13th in long jump – 15 feet and 10.5 inches); Dwyer (10th in shot put – 33 feet and .25 inches); Claire Beck (12th in 400-meter dash – 1:03.61); Nicole Jurrens (16th in 400-meter dash – 1:08.88 and 22nd in 200-meter dash – 30.83 seconds); Sara Schultz (22nd in 800-meter run – 2:52.99) and Amber Wiebenga (23rd in 800-meter run – 2:58.49);
Other men's place finishers are: Gimbel (9th in shot put – 39 feet and 10.75 inches); Gabe Samuelson (18th in 400-meter dash – 55.24 seconds and 29th in 800-meter run – 2:08.39); Ike Pohlman (22nd in 400-meter dash – 56.89 seconds and 29th in 200-meter dash – 25.29 seconds); Joshua Scott (14th in 600-meter dash – 1:35.89); John Bintliff (23rd in 800-meter run – 2:05.22); Jacob Cassutt (32nd in 800-meter run – 2:09.50); Stacey Berg (15th in 200-meter dash – 23.57 seconds); Gross (28th in 200-meter dash – 25.12 seconds); Chad Pelkofer (33rd in 200-meter dash – 25.85 seconds) and Chance Clason (34th in 200-meter dash – 26 seconds).
Dakota State heads to western South Dakota on Thursday, Feb. 16 for their final chance to qualify for NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet. The Trojans compete in the independent championships meet, which is held at the Donald E. Young Gymnasium on the campus of Black Hills State. All former Dakota Athletic Conference members (Black Hills State, Dakota State, Dickinson State, Minot State, South Dakota Mines and Valley City State) will compete in the meet.
