DSU women’s basketball drops regular-season finale at South Dakota Mines

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines women's basketball team shot 55.9 percent from the field in the first-half and never trailed in the game as they defeated Dakota State 77-64 Saturday afternoon at King Center. It was the final regular-season game for both teams.
Dakota State finished their regular-season with an overall record of 7-21. South Dakota Mines concluded their season with a record of 16-10.
The Lady Hardrockers hit 19-of-34 field goals in the first twenty minutes of the game to give them a 43-28 halftime advantage. The Trojans were 11-for-32 (34.4 percent) in the first-half.
Dakota State started the second-half with a 17-4 run, including a run of 11 straight points to get DSU within 47-45 on a 3-pointer by Cassie Jacobsen.
The Hardrockers sealed the victory by closing the game with a 30-19 run.
Jacobsen recorded her career-high 22 points for the Trojans. She was 6-for-10 from the field, including 3-for-4 from the 3-point arc. Jacobsen converted all seven free throws attempts. Katy Pillar added 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Courtney Hamblin scored 10 points. Julie Munson stole the ball four times in the game.
Five players scored in double-digits for South Dakota Mines. Ariel Granillo and Justine Blade each had 16 points. Blade had six rebounds and four blocked shots. Shalane Hampp and Hillary Hawkins each added 11 points. Katie Strandholm had 13 points off the bench. Strampe and Hawkins each had seven rebounds.
The Lady Hardrockers shot 50.9 percent overall from the field (28-for-55) compared the Trojans' 22-for-61 (36.1 percent).
SDM outrebounded DSU 41-26.
South Dakota Mines recorded 10 blocked shots in the game, while DSU had one blocked shot.
Dakota State heads to the postseason play next weekend. The Trojans host the State Farm Association of Independent Institutions basketball tournament at DSU Fieldhouse. The pairings and game times will be announced on Sunday afternoon. The five-team tournament will kick off with a first-round game on Friday at 6 p.m.
