Fideler earns A.I.I. Male Athlete of the Week honor for his second time
February 20, 2012
MADISON, S.D. – The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) has been selected Dakota State's Matt Fideler as its Male Athlete of the Week honor, announced Monday morning. It was his second time during the indoor track and field season that he had received this honor.
Fideler, a senior distance runner from Volga, S.D., set a new Dakota State University indoor track and field record in winning the 3,000-meter run at the Independent Open on Feb. 16 in Spearfish, S.D. He dominated the race and finished with a time of eight minutes and 43.53 seconds. Due to the altitude in Spearfish, his time was recalculated to 8:35.92 for new DSU record. The time was also his personal best and improved to the 14th best time in the nation.
Fideler will be making his third appearance to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships during his tenure at Dakota State. He was a member of the distance medley and 4 x 800-meter relays that earned All-American honors in 2010.
The NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships will be held in Geneva, Ohio on March 3-5.
Matt is the son of Kenneth and JoAnn Fideler. He is studying Business Management and Accounting at Dakota State University.
