Biggers receives A.I.I. weekly honor
February 27, 2012
MADISON, S.D. – Keith Biggers of Dakota State University men's basketball team was named to the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Male Athlete of the week, announced Monday.
Biggers, a 6-foot-7 senior center from Champaign, Ill., was named to the 2012 State Farm A.I.I. All-Tournament team after helping lead the Trojans to two straight victories over NAIA's nationally-ranked teams. He averaged 16.5 points and 9 rebounds a game for DSU in wins over No. 25 Valley City State (N.D.) 82-73 and No. 8 Jamestown (N.D.) 80-71.
According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, Biggers ranks 15th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (3.2).
Dakota State also clinched an automatic bid to the 2012 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo. It was the first time in 20 years that the Trojans had qualified for the national tournament (1992 – the year when Dakota State made a run to the NAIA's Final Four and finished the year with a 19-16 overall record).
DSU is currently 18-12 on the season, the most wins since 1992.
The 32-team NAIA Division II Men's Basketball national tournament brackets will be announced on Wednesday.
