Trojan Baseball wins one game; loses three games at Baker (Kan.)

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Dakota State's baseball team suffered a doubleheader sweep from Baker (Kan.) on Feb. 25, but bounced back to split a pair of games on Sunday, Feb. 26. It was a four-game series with the Wildcats at the Sauder Baseball Field.
Dakota State's overall record currently stands at 4-5. Baker (Kan.) is 4-4.
Game 1 – Baker (Kan.) 3, Dakota State 2 - BOX SCORE
The Wildcats scored once in the bottom of the second inning for a 1-0 lead. Baker added two runs in the bottom sixth frame to extend their lead to 3-0.
Dakota State mounted a late rally in the top of the seventh inning, but fell short. The Trojans produced two runs from Anyelo Roman's solo home run and Max Garza's RBI double to score Ryan Bourcier.
Bourcier had a single in the game for DSU.
Matt Abel, Steven Stewart, Bryan Kindle, Josh Zach and Even Cleveland each had a single.
Seth Doxey (0-2) took the loss on the pitching mound for the Trojans. He worked for six innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He recorded four strikeouts.
Wildcat Chris Cummins pitched a complete game for the victory. He allowed three hits and two runs. He struck out 13 Trojan batters.
Game 2 – Baker (Kan.) 7, Dakota State 2 - BOX SCORE
Baker produced three runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 3-0 lead.
The Trojans broke their scoring drought in the top of the fourth inning to trim Baker's lead to 3-1.
The Wildcats put together a four-run fourth inning to extend their lead to 7-1.
DSU added a run in the top of the fifth inning and unable to score again in the last two innings.
Anyelo Roman and Chaz Palmer each had a double for Dakota State. Rays Roman, Bourcier and Corey Pasichnyk each had a hit. Garza and Palmer each recorded an RBI. Kyle Holland swiped one base.
Joey Orozco had two doubles and two RBIs for the Wildcats. Matt Abel recorded two singles.
Brandon Womack (0-1) recorded the loss for the Trojans. He tossed four innings and allowed seven runs (two unearned) on nine hits. Andy Lee and JD Farley each worked for one shutout inning.
Jimmy Gricol (1-1) was the winning pitcher in the game for Baker. He pitched five innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Caleb Lee came in the last two innings in relief. He allowed one hit.
Game 3 – Dakota State 6, Baker (Kan.) 0 - BOX SCORE
Dakota State bounced back in the winning column behind a complete game winner by Jason Hershfield.
The Trojans produced three runs in the top of the first and fifth innings to gain a 6-0 lead.
DSU's Hershfield was perfect behind the plate, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Rays Roman added two hits, two runs and an RBI. Ryan Steffensen and Bourcier each had a double. Palmer recorded a triple. Holland and Anyelo Roman each had a single.
Rays Roman, Anyelo Roman and Holland each recorded a stolen base for the Trojans.
Brett Lechien and Matt Fry each had two singles for Baker. Orozco added a single.
Hershfield recorded his second straight complete game win for DSU. He allowed five hits and struck out six Wildcat batters.
Thomas Hawkins took the loss for Baker. He pitched three innings and gave up three runs on five hits.
Game 4 – Baker (Kan.) 3, Dakota State 0 - BOX SCORE
The Trojans were unable to score in the final game of the four-game series.
Baker scored once in the bottom second inning and twice in the bottom fifth frame for the victory.
Nathan Weelock tossed a perfect game for the Wildcats. He struck out seven Trojan batters.
Kyle Bradbury (0-1) suffered the loss for DSU. He pitched six innings and allowed three runs (one unearned) on six hits. He recorded six strikeouts.
Dakota State returns back to action on March 3-4. The Trojans travel to Parkville, Mo. to take on Park (Mo.) in a four-game series. The doubleheader will start at 12 noon on each day at the Comfort Field.
