Trojans hand Park (Mo.) first baseball losses Saturday

Anyelo RomanPARKVILLE, Mo. – Dakota State's baseball team swept Park (Mo.) Saturday afternoon at the Comfort Park.  The Trojans handed the Pirates their first losses of the season after opening the season with six straight wins.

Dakota State improves their overall record to 6-5.  Park dropped to 6-2.

Game 1 – Dakota State 3, Park (Mo.) 1 - BOX SCORE

Park scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first frame by Kyle Clifton's RBI sacrifice fly to gain a 1-0 lead.

Seth DoxeyThe Trojans tied the game at 1-1 caused by Pirates' defensive error in the top of the fourth inning.

Anyelo Roman hit a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to earn a 3-1 lead.

The Trojans prevented the Pirates to rally back in the final inning.  DSU ended the game by recording a double play.

Rays Roman and Anyelo Roman each have two hits for the Trojans.  Anyelo Roman had a triple and a double.  Ryan Bouricer had a double.  Kyle Holland recorded a single.

Rays RomanFor Park, Cody Cobb, Clifton and Lance Kays each had a single.

Seth Doxey threw a complete game for his first pitching victory for Dakota State.  He allowed a run on three hits.

Matt Klein suffered the loss for the Pirates.  He pitched a complete game and allowed three runs on six hits.

Game 2 – Dakota State 4, Park (Mo.) 1 - BOX SCORE

Josh CavenFor the second straight game on Saturday, Park gained a 1-0 lead in the opening inning.  Chris Booth hit an RBI single to score Cobb.

Chad Palmer scored in the top of the second frame caused by Park's defensive error to tie the game at 1-1.

Dakota State produced three runs in the top of the fifth inning to grab a 4-1 lead.

Rays Roman went 2-for-4 with a double and a single for DSU.  Max Garza went perfect behind the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI.  Anyelo Roman and Corey Pasichnyk each had a hit.

Jason HershfieldJosh Garcia, Clifton and Booth each had a single for the Pirates.

Josh Caven recorded his first pitching win for the Trojans.  He tossed 4 2/3 innings of work and gave up one run on three hits.  Jason Hershfield notched his first save of the season by tossing 2 1/3 shutout innings in relief.  He struck out five Pirates' batters.

Danny Herron took the loss for Park.  He started the first 4 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (one unearned) on six hits.  Brandon Hershley pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings in relief.

Dakota State and Park conclude their four-game series on Sunday.  The doubleheader starts at 12 p.m. (noon) at the Comfort Field in Parkville, Mo.
