Coy garners A.I.I. Male Athlete of the Week honor

Andy CoyMADISON, S.D. – The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) selected Dakota State's Andy Coy as its male athlete of the week, announced Monday morning.

Coy, a junior from Hill City, S.D., became the first Dakota State men's indoor track and field athlete in program history to capture a national championship in an individual event.  He claimed the men's 1000-meter run title in the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet on Saturday afternoon.  Coy posted a new DSU's school record time of two minutes and 24.94 seconds, eclipsing his old record of 2:25.47.

Coy's time is the fastest 1000-meter run ever run by an athlete at a South Dakota college.  He recorded his third straight year as NAIA All-American Indoor Track and Field honor in his career at Dakota State University.

Andy is the son of Rusty and Cindy Coy of Hill City, S.D.  He is a majoring in Biology at DSU.
