NAIA DIVISION II MEN'S BASKETBALL POSTSEASON NATIONAL POLL
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Monday afternoon from the national office, that after making their second-ever trip to NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament on March 7, Dakota State gained more votes recognition to the postseason 'Top 25' national poll.
Dakota State completed a historical 2011-12 men's basketball campaign with an 18-13 overall record; most wins in 20 years when DSU went to the 'Final Four' in 1992 with a 19-16 record. The Trojans also won their first-ever Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference tournament, which was hosted in Madison.
DSU dropped an overtime heartbreaker to current-No. 4 McPherson (Kan.) 69-63 in the first-round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament's first-round game in Point Lookout, Mo.
The Trojans were 2-1 against ranked teams in their last three games of the season, including upset victories over then-No. 25 Valley City State (N.D.) 82-73 and then-No. 8 Jamestown (N.D.) 80-71 in the A.I.I. conference tournament.
Dakota State had faced ten nationally ranked opponents – of which six of these opponents were ranked in the 'Top 10' during the 2011-12 season.
Oregon Tech claimed the No. 1 ranking after capturing the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Championship, defeating tournament's top-seed Northwood (Fla.) on March 13.
