Flandreau’s Relf joins DSU women’s basketball program
March 20, 2012
MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State University women's basketball interim head coach Chris Stoebner is excited to announced the signing of Brooke Relf. She will join the Trojan women's basketball program this fall.
"We are very excited to have Brooke as part of the Dakota State Women's Basketball Program," said Stoebner. "Not only is she a great basketball player, but she is a great person, which makes her a perfect fit for our team. She comes from an outstanding basketball family and being coached by her dad in high school makes her almost a coach on the floor."
Relf attends Flandreau Public High School in Flandreau, S.D. and will graduate this spring. In her senior year, she averaged 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game for the Fliers (under the guidance of Coach Brian Relf). She shot 40 percent from the 2-point field goal, 30 percent behind the 3-point line and 75 percent from the free-throw line.
Relf was a three-time Big East All-Conference and two-time Lake Central All-Conference athlete. She was selected to Un-sung Hero award and Brookings All-Register team in her junior season.
"Brooke's knowledge of the game, consistent shooting and her physical strength will allow her to be a contributor to our team next year," added Stoebner. "She is also a hard worker and will put the time in to improve all aspects of her game, which will make her an easy player to coach."
Relf also lettered in volleyball where she was a two-time Big East All-Conference athlete. She also lettered in track in her freshman and sophomore years. She is involved in band, jazz band, chorus, one-act play and all-school play at Flandreau Public High School.
Relf earned Academic All-State honors in both basketball and volleyball. She is a member of the National Honor Society. She was listed in the honor roll during her four-year career at Flandreau Public High School for her academic success. Relf had been involved in various volunteer activities in the Flandreau area.
Brooke is the daughter of Brian and Julie Relf of Flandreau, S.D. She plans to major Physical Education and Athletic Training at Dakota State University.
