Dakota State concludes 12-game home stand versus Mount Marty Tuesday nightTHIS WEEK:  Dakota State (16-19 overall record) concludes their 12-game home stand Tuesday night as they welcome in-state rival Mount Marty (12-14) in a doubleheader at Flynn Field.  It was originally scheduled for March 27 and was postponed to April 3.  The doubleheader is set to start with the first game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the second game in approximately 20-25 minutes after the completion of the first game.

LAST MEETING:  Mount Marty took three games from Dakota State in both teams' last meetings last year.  Dakota State concludes 12-game home stand versus Mount Marty Tuesday nightThe Trojans split in Yankton, S.D. on March 24, losing the first game 3-0 and winning the second game by the score of 6-1.  The Lancers swept DSU on April 25 at Flynn Field in Madison.  Mount Marty recorded a 12-7 game one victory and 11-8 second game win in eight innings.

ABOUT MOUNT MARTY:  Mount Marty is a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.  The Lancers are currently 12-14 overall record.  The Lancers opened their GPAC conference play with a 1-3 record after suffering a sweep at Morningside on March 30 and recorded a split with Midland on April 1. Andy Bernatow is in his eighth season as Mount Marty's head baseball coach.  The Lancers are 0-2 against former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) foes (dropped a home doubleheader with Mayville State on March 21).  The Lancers are 3-3 at home and 9-11 on the road this season. 

DSU 12-GAME HOME STAND:  Dakota State is currently 5-5 on their 12-game home stand at Flynn Field.  The Trojans started their home stand by recording a combined seven home runs to sweep their in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan on March 21.  The Trojans recorded a 6-1 and 6-3 wins over the Tigers.  DSU began their four-game series with a sweep over Jamestown (N.D.) to extend their winning streak to five games on March 24.  The Trojans won a doubleheader over the Jimmies by the scores of 6-1 and 12-5.  JC answered back by taking the doubleheader from DSU on March 25 by the scores of 3-2 and 18-6.  Mayville State (N.D.) took three games in the four-game series with the Trojans last weekend.  The Comets swept DSU by the score of 2-1 and 12-6 on March 31.  Dakota State earned a slugfest doubleheader split with Mayville State on April 1, losing 21-19 in extra innings in the first game and defeated the Comets 9-7 in the second game.

DSU SCHOOL RECORD BROKEN:  Jason Hershfield broke a new DSU school record in the second game victory over Mayville State on April 1.  He recorded his 11th home run to break the new DSU school record for most home runs in a single season.  The previous old record of 10 home runs set by Josh Tiede in 2010 and Evan Hogan in 2003.

NATIONAL RANKINGS:  According to DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, April 2, Dakota State ranks 12th in the nation in home runs per game (0.9).  Jason Hershfield ranks 6th in the nation in home runs with 11, 16th in total saves with five (5) and 34th in batters struck out per nine innings (10.3).  He also is 46th in the nation in slugging percentage of .668.  Seth Doxey ranks 14th in the nation in earns runs average (ERA) with 1.49 and 21st in total earned runs allowed (8).  He is 37th in the nation in total runs allowed with 13.  Anyelo Roman ranks 26th in home runs with seven (8).     

DSU QUICK LEADERS:  Ryan Bourcier leads Dakota State in batting average—0.337 with 33 hits and nine doubles.  Anyelo Roman records 32 RBIs (0.9) and leads the team in 38 hits.  Rays Roman swipes 14 bases for the Trojans this season.  Seth Doxey leads the team in earned run average with 1.49 with eight earned runs in 48 1/3 innings.  Hershfield averages 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings (48 total strikeouts).  He leads the team with five saves.  Chaz Palmer records two triples this year for DSU.

A.I.I. BASEBALL INDEPENDENT TOURNAMENT:  The A.I.I. Baseball Independent Tournament will be hosted by Cal State-San Marcos on May 2-5.  Besides host-team Cal State-San Marcos, five other teams will qualify to the independent tournament.  The winner and runner-up of the independent tournament each will receive an automatic bid to the national tournament.  Cal State-San Marcos is the defending A.I.I. Baseball champions where they defeated Houston-Victoria (Texas) 10-3 in the championship game.  The NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round Tournament is held on May 10-14 on nine different campus sites (selected by the NAIA).  The Avista-NAIA World Series will be held in Lewiston, Idaho on May 25 to June 1.

UP NEXT:  Dakota State starts their 12-game road game stretch this weekend as they head to Nebraska.  The Trojans will take on Bellevue (Neb.) in a four-game series as part of Bellevue University IHOP Invitational at Westgate Field.  First game of the doubleheader on Friday and Saturday is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Omaha, Neb.
