Fideler qualifies for NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Dakota State University outdoor track and field teams completed their final day of the annual Sioux City Relays Saturday at Olsen Stadium. Numerous NAIA and NCAA schools competed in the premier annual two-day event.
Matt Fideler broke a new DSU school record and produced a national qualifying time in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase. He recorded a time of nine minutes and 14.66 seconds for a fifth-place finish. Fideler was the top NAIA runner place finisher in the event.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Summer Bronson placed eighth with a time of 1:06.91 in the women's event. Chad Pelkofer was 20th in the men's with a time of 58.85 seconds.
Stacey Berg finished 10th in the men's long jump. He jumped with a measurement of 20 feet and 10.5 inches.
In women's shot put, Shayna Dwyer was 24th with a throw measurement of 32 feet and 5.75 inches.
Trevor Rossknecht placed 22nd in the men's discus throw (121 feet and seven inches). Ryan Gimbel was 25th (118 feet) and Trevor Van Tilburg finished 29th (112 feet and four inches).
Amber Wiebenga recorded a time of 5:53.18 for a 42nd place finish in the women's 1500-meter run. Sara Schultz placed 44th with a time of 6:02.81.
Dakota State returns back to action next Saturday (April 21) as they compete in the Red Raiders Open, hosted by Northwestern (Iowa) College. The meet will be held in Orange City, Iowa.
