Trojans name football team captains

Brandon LargeMADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University football team is proud to announce the team captains for the 2012 season.  They are seniors Brandon Large, Eric Liles, John Niesen and Blake Schlagel.

Large and Liles were the team captains in 2011.

Liles, 2012 Beyond Sports Network, Inc. (BSN) Second Team Preseason All-American, led the Trojans in tackles last season.  He recorded a total of 94 tackles (10.4 tackles per game, which is sixth in the nation in tackles per game).  During Liles' career at DSU, he had accumulated a total of 268 tackles.Eric Liles

Large, quarterback for the Trojans, broke numerous passing records in the Trojan record book last season.  He recorded the most passing attempts (405) and most completions (228) in a single season.  Large tied the school record for the most completions in a single game with 31.  He amassed a total of 2,512 offensive yards last season.

Niesen had been with the Trojan Football team for four years.  He made transition from being a defensive back to a running back this season.  John NiesenNiesen had been nominated for 2012 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team®.  He had been named to Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete last season.

Schlagel, four-year letter winner for the Trojans, had been the starter at the defensive end in his four-year career at Dakota State.

Dakota State kicks off their 2012 campaign at home Saturday afternoon, hosting Peru State (Neb.).  Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. at the Trojan Field.Blake Schlagel
