Trojan cross country teams begin practice
August 28, 2012
MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University cross country teams opened up their 2012 season with its first official practice Monday afternoon. Their first meet of the season is not until Sept. 15 as DSU hosts its home meet – Herb Blakely Invitational – at the Madison Country Club.
A total of 18 runners reported to camp. Buzz Stevenson, long-time DSU head cross country coach, will be assisted by former NAIA All-American cross country runner and DSU graduate Anthony Drealan.
The women's team has two seniors on the team – Summer Bronson and Claire Beck. Amber Wiebenga returns back from last year's team. DSU have four new faces to the women's team – Stephanie Uher, Anastasia Asimakopoulos, Tara Ronke and Kayla Sveen.
The DSU men's team returns five runners from last year's team – Michael Hoffman, Andy Coy, Nic Penning, Andy Quenzer and Thomas Ricket. There are five new faces to the team – Jacob Hemenway (transfer), Taylor Hauge, Steve Selchert, Jared Sutton and Jared Truman.
Dakota State will complete in four regular-season meets. The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Cross Country Championship meet will be held in San Marcos, Calif. on Nov. 3. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championships take place in Vancouver, Wash. on Nov. 17.
