Trojans bounce back in winning column, defeat Flames and Tigers in the Corn Palace Classic

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota State University volleyball team bounced back in the winning column in the second day of the Corn Palace Classic, hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University. The Trojans swept Saint Mary (Neb.) in three straight sets and defeated in-state rival DWU in four sets.
Dakota State improved their overall record to 4-6.

In the first match of the day, Dakota State smashed 45 attacks to sweep Saint Mary (Neb.) in three straight sets.
DSU hit a .324 percentage (14 kills – 3 errors -34 attempts) in the opening set to earn a 1-0 match lead with a 25-22 victory.
The Trojans recorded a .294 hitting percentage to gain a 25-18 second set win for a 2-0 match lead. The Flames had a .188 hitting efficiency.
Saint Mary was held to .077 hitting percentage in the third set as the Trojans secured the match with a 25-18 win.
Kristen DiPaola had a match-high of 20 kills for Dakota State. Allison Thielsen added nine kills. Caitlin Pick had seven attacks. Stacey Schuller produced 37 set assists.
DiPaola and Green each had 15 digs for the Trojans. Thielsen added 13 digs.
Kaylee Wallace had 11 kills for the Flames. Shelby Easley recorded 15 assists, while Wallace added nine assists.
Wallace had 11 digs to lead Saint Mary's defense. Baylee Collins added 10 digs.
Dakota State had a hitting percentage of .267 in the match compared to the Flames' .157. The Trojans outhit Saint Mary 45-32.

The Trojans recorded 13 blocks in the match to earn a 3-1 match victory over in-state rival DWU. Dakota State earned their fourth straight meeting win over the Tigers.
Dakota Wesleyan won the first set by the score of 27-25. DSU bounced back to win the second set 28-26 to gain a 1-1 match split.
DWU was held to below .100 hitting percentage in the final two sets. DSU secured the match with a 25-16 third set and 25-15 victories. The Trojans had a hitting efficiency of .286 in the third set and .250 in the fourth set.
DiPaola amassed a total of 27 kills in the match, which is tied for the fifth most kills in DSU volleyball record book. Mosco added eight attacks. Schuller recorded 41 assists.
Green had 16 digs and three service aces for DSU. Thielsen and DiPaola each had 13 digs. Mandi Atkins had 11 digs.
Mosco had three solo blocks and five block assists – a season high of 5.5 blocks.
Danielle Bird had 11 kills for DWU. Rachel Tinklenberg added nine kills. Briana Jung had 24 assists, while Kelli Swenson added 14 assists.
Bird recorded 20 digs for the Tigers. Maggie Stehly added 14 digs.
Dakota State outhit DWU 51-48 in kills. The Trojans recorded a hitting percentage of .189 in the match compared to the Tigers' .108.
DSU looks to extend their winning streak next week. The Trojans continue their action on the road as they travel to Presentation (S.D.) in Aberdeen. First serve from the Strode Center is slated to start at 7 p.m.
