Briar Cliff (Iowa) tops Dakota State spikers in four sets

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff (Iowa) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) ended Dakota State's winning streak in volleyball at the Newman Flanagan Center on Thursday night. The Chargers defeated the Trojans in four sets (25-20, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-16).
The loss snapped Trojans' three-match winning streak and dipped their overall record to 5-7. Briar Cliff, which swept the season series, raised their record to 8-5 (BC defeated DSU 3-2 in Madison, S.D. on Aug. 24).
Kristen DiPaola had 15 attacks for Dakota State. Caitlin Pick added seven kills. Stacey Schuller produced 25 set assists.
Katie Green led the Trojans' defense with 12 digs. She had three service aces. Mandi Atkins and Schuller each had seven digs. Taylor Mosco had a solo block and three block assists (2.5 total blocks).
Jenna Berg recorded 13 kills for the Chargers. Kally Iedema added 10 kills. Erin Frank had 25 assists.
Lindsey Jardine had 12 digs for Briar Cliff. Frank added 11 digs. Monica had three service aces.
Briar Cliff outhit the Trojans 47-34 in the match. The Chargers recorded a hitting percentage of .150 compared to the Trojans' .115.
Dakota State returns home on Saturday to kick off their seven-match home stand. The Trojans entertain Concordia (Neb.) of the GPAC. First serve from the DSU Fieldhouse is set for 1 p.m. The DSU volleyball team will be recognizing their parents prior to the match.
