Trojans kick off seven-match home stand with sweep over Concordia (Neb.)

MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University volleyball team kicked off their seven-match home stand at the DSU Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. The Trojans hit a .314 hitting percentage to sweep Concordia (Neb.) Bulldogs in three straight sets by the score of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-16.
Dakota State won their fourth match in the last five matches and improved their overall record to 6-7. Concordia, member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), dropped their record to 3-9.
The Trojans roared in the opening match with an 8-1 lead – including four kills from Kristen DiPaola in the scoring run. DSU was able to extend their largest lead of the set at 16-4. CUNE rallied back and gained a 22-21 lead. The Trojans survived CUNE's late rally and secured the first set at 26-24 for a 1-0 match lead.
A total of 16 ties were featured in the second set in the back-and-forth battle. At 16-16, Dakota State scored five straight points to gain a 21-16 lead. The Trojans recorded a 25-23 second set victory to extend DSU's match lead to 2-0.
Dakota State went on to lead 19-12 in the third set. Allison Thielsen recorded an attack to end the match to give DSU a 3-0 victory over the Bulldogs with a 25-16 third-set win. The Trojans recorded a .381 hitting efficiency while CUNE was held to a .120 hitting percentage.
DiPaola had 13 kills for DSU. She added 11 digs and three block assists. Thielsen smashed 11 attacks with a hitting percentage of .476. She had nine digs. Caitlin Pick recorded seven kills for the Trojans. She had five block assists. Taylor Mosco recorded four block assists. Stacey Schuller produced 30 set assists and recorded two service aces. Katie Green had 10 digs and three service aces.
Amanda Kisker had eight kills for Concordia. Amanda Abbott added seven kills. Jami Nekoliczak recorded 19 assists, while Kayla James added 10 assists. Carli Smith had 13 digs.
The Trojans outhit the Bulldogs 39-34 in kills. CUNE committed 23 attack errors in the match (.118 hitting percentage).
Dakota State recorded seven blocks (14 block assists) compared to the Bulldogs' five blocks.
DSU had seven service aces and a serve percentage of .920. Concordia had six service aces and a .906 serve percentage.
Dakota State continues their home stand on Monday night. The Trojans look to continue their winning streak as they host another opponent from the GPAC – Mount Marty (S.D.). The second meeting between the in-state rivals is set for 7 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse. DSU defeated the Lancers in a five-set thriller in both teams' last meeting at the Cimpl Arena in Yankton, S.D.
