DSU is an NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Institution
October 22, 2012
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dakota State is one of the 221 NAIA institutions to be named to the NAIA's Champions of Character Five-Star institutions, announced on Oct. 17. Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and personal conduct in the community as well during competition throughout the course of the academic year.
Dakota State University sports programs and athletes had been involved in a variety of activities in the Madison community. They have participated in Habitat for Humanity projects, raised cancer awareness in the months of October and February, participated in reading programs and tutoring with local schools, participated in highway cleanup and many other activities that have earned points toward the award.
The scorecard process is based on the NAIA's flagship program Champions of Character, which emphasizes the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
