Trojan men’s basketball continues hot start, defeats Lions 80-59

ELLENDALE, N.D. – Dakota State outscored Trinity Bible (N.D.) 45-27 in the second-half of the men's basketball action Thursday evening at Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse. The Trojans recorded an 80-59 road victory over the Lions to continue DSU's hot start.
Dakota State raised their overall record to 4-1, which is the best start in more than 15 years. Trinity Bible dropped their overall record to 2-3.
The Trojans held a slim halftime lead at 35-32. The Trojans shot 50 percent from the field (12-for-24) and went 6-for-9 at the free-throw line in the first twenty minutes of the game. Trinity Bible was 48.3 percent (14-for-29) from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.
DSU was made 15 field goals in 32 attempts in the second-half (46.9 percent). The Trojans added 11 free-throws in 13 attempts (84.6 percent). Trinity Bible was held to 26.5 percent shooting from the field (9-for-34) in the final twenty minutes of the game.
Yusuf Vinson recorded a double-double of 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. He was 9-for-13 from the field and converted six free-throws in seven attempts. Terrell Newton added 18 points off the bench (7-for-9 from the field) and earned eight boards. John Lamb had 14 points. Marcus Smith recorded 13 points. Smith, Newton and Kevin Danielsen each dished out three assists.
Mikey Rosario scored 20 points for the Lions. Pete Enos added 16 points. Alexander Anthony had seven points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. Barry Bighorn had four steals and two blocked shots.
Dakota State shot 48.2 percent overall from the field (27-for-56) compared to the Lions' 36.5 percent (23-for-63). The Trojans drained seven 3-pointers in 19 attempts (36.8 percent) while Trinity Bible went 4-for-19 from the 3-point arc (21.1 percent).
DSU was 17-for-22 from the free-throw line (77.3 percent). The Lions mad 10 free-throws in 12 attempts (83.3 percent).
The Trojans outrebounded Trinity Bible 43-32.
Dakota State will play an exhibition game on Friday night. The Trojans travel to the Wachs Arena to take on NCAA Division II member – Northern State (S.D.). Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Aberdeen, S.D.
