Wolves defeat Trojans in DSU men’s basketball exhibition game Friday night

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State (S.D.) reeled off with 14 straight points to open the game Friday night over Dakota State in Trojan men's basketball exhibition game at Wachs Arena. The Wolves (member of the NCAA Division II) never trailed in the game as they defeated DSU by the score of 95-62.
Dakota State's overall record remains at 4-1, while Northern State raised their record to 2-2.
The Trojans ended their scoring drought with fourteen minutes and 47 seconds left in the first-half by Terrell Newton's field goal (NSU leads at 14-2).
The Wolves earned a 47-26 halftime lead.
Northern State maintained control in the final twenty minutes of the game. Dakota State could get no closer than 22 points at 50-28 with 18:13 remaining in the game.
Newton poured in 21 points off the bench for the Trojans. He was 9-for-12 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from the 3-point arc. Newton pulled down five rebounds and dished out four assists. Cameron Krump added 14 points. Marcus Smith scored 11 points off the bench.
Michael Emge scored 23 points for the Wolves. He was 8-for-11 from the field and drained six 3-pointers in the game. Dustin Tetzlaff went 10-for-10 from the field for 20 points. He grabbed eight rebounds. Mack Arvidson had 10 points off the bench. Geoffrey Firmin dished out six assists.
Northern State shot 56.5 percent (39-for-69) from the field compared to the Trojans' 46 percent (23-for-50). The Wolves were 13-for-24 (54.2 percent) from the 3-point arc, while DSU was 6-for-16 (37.5 percent).
NSU outrebounded the Trojans 38-21.
Dakota State plays another exhibition game on Monday night against NCAA Division II Augustana (S.D.) Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
