DSU Lady T's basketball returns back to regular-season action this week

THIS WEEK: The Lady T's basketball team (2-4 overall record) returns back to regular-season action with a pair of games this week. Dakota State returns home on Tuesday night as they welcome Presentation (S.D.) (2-1). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse. On Saturday, the Lady T's head to New Ulm, Minn. to take on Martin Luther (0-3). The game is set for 2 p.m. at the Luther Student Center.
LAST MEETING: Dakota State hosted Presentation (S.D.) in both teams' last meeting on Dec. 9, 2010 at the DSU Fieldhouse. The Saints jumped to a 10-4 lead in the early going of the game. The Lady T's closed the first-half with a 21-6 run for a 34-23 halftime lead. Presentation could get no closer than six points (45-39) with less than 12 minutes in regulation as DSU closed the game with a strong scoring run. The Lady T's recorded a 78-54 victory over the Saints. Dakota State forced Martin Luther to 30 turnovers in 83-40 victory on Dec. 5, 2006 at DSU Fieldhouse in both teams' last meeting. The Lady T's outscored the Knights 47-16 in the game's final twenty minutes. DSU defeated MLC 84-52 in both teams' last meeting held in New Ulm on Nov. 22, 2005.
LADY T'S HOT SHOOTING: According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, Dakota State is ranked second in the nation in free-throw percentage. The Lady T's converted 73 free-throws in 95 attempts. DSU shot 76.8 percent from the free-throw line through six games this season. Dakota State is fifth in the nation in field goal percentage shooting (48.8 percent), where the Lady T's made 166 baskets in 340 attempts this season. DSU shot above 50 percent overall from the field in three games this season. The Lady T's shot their season-best from the field on Nov. 1 versus Oglala Lakota (S.D.), converting 47 field goals in 86 attempts for a percentage of 54.7.
DSU PILES UP BLOCKED SHOTS: Dakota State is eighth in the nation in blocked shots with an average of 4.7 blocks per game. The Lady T's is 19th in the nation with 28 total blocked shots. Alyson Drooger leads the team with 15 blocked shots this season, which is 10th in the nation. She is ninth in the nation with an average of 2.5 blocked shots.
LADY T'S JV TEAM PLAYS TWO HOME GAMES NEXT WEEK: The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball junior varsity team will be playing two home games next week at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's host Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. On Wednesday, Dec. 5, Dakota State entertains Mount Marty (S.D.) with a tip-off starting at 4:45 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State played an exhibition game with in-state rival University of Sioux Falls (member of NCAA Division II and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) on Saturday, Nov. 24. The Lady T's opened up with a 10-point lead (24-14) with 11:03 remaining in the first-half before the Cougars used a 24-9 run to gain a 38-33 halftime lead. The Lady T's rallied back within one point (52-51) with 12:12 left in the game, but USF finished the game with a 26-13 run for a 78-64 victory. Katy Pillar had 17 points in the game and earned nine rebounds. Kylie Westover added 11 points. Alyson Drooger scored 10 points off the bench and dished out five assists. Presentation recorded their first loss of the season on Nov. 20 at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D. DWU raced to a 45-23 halftime lead and outscored the Saints 44-15 in the second-half. Rachel Fuhrmann led all scorers for PC with 17 points. Kelli Boekelheide had nine rebounds. Martin Luther dropped two games in the University of Wisconsin-Stout Tournament during Thanksgiving break. The Knights fell short to Dubuque (Iowa) 63-60 on Nov. 24 and host-team UW-Stout 80-60 on Nov. 25.
DSU RANKS NATIONALLY: The Lady T's are 10th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (35.4). Dakota State averages 17.8 assists per game, which ranks 16th in the nation. DSU is 29th in the nation in scoring offense with an average of 73.3 points per game and 37th in total assists with 107. Courtney Hulstein is 24th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage of 45.5. Katy Pillar ranks 42nd in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (5.7). Kylie Westover averages two 3-pointers made per game, which is 50th in the nation.
LADY T'S QUICK LEADERS: Katy Pillar averages 12.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the Lady T's this season. She is 45th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game with an average of 5.7 rebounds. Yui Onodera accumulates 21 assists with an average of 3.5 assists per game. Julie Munson leads the team with nine steals (1.5 steals per game). Alyson Drooger records 15 blocked shots this season, averaging 2.5 blocks per game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Vermillion, S.D.
