Penning captures Midland Half-Marathon; qualifies for NAIA Nationals

MIDLAND HALF-MARATHON RESULTS

Nic PenningFREMONT, Neb. – Senior Nic Penning of Dakota State University captured the Midland Half-Marathon event Saturday, hosted by Midland University.  As a result, he qualified for the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in marathon for the second straight season.

A total of 18 runners competed in the 13.1 mile half-marathon race.  Penning won the title by recording his career-best time of one hour, 12 minutes and two seconds.  He improved his previous half-marathon's time of 1:13:56 for a fifth-place finish in last year's event in Fremont.

The NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships meet will be held in Marion, Ind. (hosted by Indiana Wesleyan) on May 23-25, 2013.

Nic is the son of Brett and ReNette Penning of Hulett, Wyo.  He is a senior Computer Network Security major at Dakota State University.

Dakota State track and field teams will officially start their indoor track and field season on Saturday, Dec. 8.  The Trojans travel to Mankato, Minn. to compete in the Minnesota State-Mankato Open.
