Coyotes race past Lady T’s in DSU women’s basketball exhibition game

VERMILLION, S.D. – The Dakota State University Lady T's played their second exhibition game of the season Thursday evening at the USD DakotaDome. Dakota State held a brief lead early in the game, but the Coyotes defeated the Lady T's 90-35
Dakota State remains at 3-6 overall record. South Dakota, member of NCAA Division I and Summit League, raised their record to 4-5.
After USD earned a 2-0 lead to start the game, Kylie Westover drained a 3-pointer to give the Lady T's a 3-2 lead with eighteen minutes and 22 seconds left in the first-half.
At 8-8 with 16:29 left before intermission, South Dakota outscored DSU 33-10 to grab a 41-18 halftime lead.
USD shot 42.1 percent from the field (16-for-38) in the first-half. Dakota State was 25.9 percent (7-for-27), including 4-for-13 shooting from the 3-point arc (30.8 percent).
The Coyotes outscored Dakota State 49-17 in the final twenty minutes of the game.
Alyson Drooger recorded a double-double of 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lady T's. She had six blocks in the game. Drooger dished out three assists. Westover added eight points.
Nicole Seekamp was 8-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line to earn 20 points for USD. Polly Harrington had a double-double of 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Tia Hemiller added 13 points off the bench. Margaret McCloud earned 13 rebounds. Alexis Yackley recorded six assists.
South Dakota shot 47.4 percent overall from the field (36-for-76) compared to the Lady T's 24.5 percent (13-for-53). DSU drained six 3-pointers in 24 attempts compared to USD's 4-for-13 from the 3-point line.
The Coyotes were 14-for-18 at the free-throw line, while DSU was 3-for-5.
USD outrebounded the Lady T's 52-31 in the game.
Dakota State returns back to regular-season action next Friday (Dec. 14). DSU travels to Morris, Minn. to take on Minnesota-Morris. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the P.E. Center.
