2012 DAKTRONICS-NAIA FOOTBALL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE LIST

John NiesenROME, Ga. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced Tuesday that 259 football student-athletes have been named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.  Senior running back John Niesen of Dakota State University earned this prestigious honor for his second straight year.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Earlier this month, Niesen was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America® First Team.

Niesen was one of the nine NAIA scholar-athletes to be named to the semifinalists for the National Football Foundation (NFF) William V. Campbell Trophy, announced last September.

John is the son of Keith and Patty Niesen of Amherst, S.D.  He is majoring in Elementary Education/Special Education at Dakota State University.
