Lady T’s dominates Minnesota-Morris 66-49

MORRIS, Minn. – The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team held Minnesota-Morris to 27.9 percent shooting from the field Friday evening at the Jim Gremmels Court. The Lady T's dominated the Cougars by the score of 66-49.
Dakota State improved their overall record to 4-6. Minnesota-Morris, member of NCAA Division III and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), dropped to 2-6.
Both teams struggled from the field in the opening minutes of the game. With the score tied at 6-6 with twelve minutes and 16 seconds in the first-half, the Cougars went on a 10-2 scoring run to give UMM's biggest lead of the game at 16-8 with less than eight minutes before halftime.
The Lady T's stormed back in the final 7:52 of the first-half with a 19-6 run to earn a 27-22 halftime lead.
DSU was 37.9 percent from the field (11-for-29) in the first twenty minutes of the game. Minnesota-Morris was 8-for-28 (28.6 percent) from the field.
Dakota State maintained their lead for the rest of the game. The Cougars were held to seven points in the first 13 minutes of the second-half as the Lady T's extended their lead to 43-29.
UMM could not get any closer than nine points at 48-39 with 5:10 remaining in the game.
The Lady T's outscored the Cougars 39-27 in the second-half. DSU made 17 baskets in 35 attempts (48.6 percent) in the game's final twenty minutes. The Cougars only made nine baskets in 33 attempts (27.3 percent).
Alyson Drooger recorded a double-double of 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Dakota State. She was 8-for-15 from the field and converted all three free-throws. Drooger had three blocks. Kylie Westover was 8-for-17 from the field to earn 17 points. Courtney Hamblin added 13 points.
Yui Onodera dished out a game-high eight assists for the Lady T's.
Brittany Rosberg had eight rebounds for DSU. Cassie Jacobsen and Julie Munson each added seven rebounds.
Kendra Wycoff scored 11 points for Minnesota-Morris. Kayla Kramer added eight points. Abby Fragodt recorded 12 rebounds and five assists.
Dakota State shot 43.8 percent overall from the field (28-for-64). The Cougars were 17-for-61.
The Lady T's drained four 3-pointers in 15 attempts (26.7 percent) compared to UMM 17.6 percent (17.6 percent).
Minnesota-Morris made 12 free-throws in 18 attempts (66.7 percent). DSU was 6-for-9 (66.7 percent).
The Lady T's dominated the Cougars on the boards. DSU outrebounded Minnesota-Morris 48-33 in the game.
DSU outscored UMM 38-16 inside the paint.
Dakota State returns home at DSU Fieldhouse on Monday night. The Lady T's hosts nationally-ranked Briar Cliff (Iowa) (No. 6 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Madison, S.D.
