Vinson earns A.I.I. Male Athlete of the Week honor

MADISON, S.D. – The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) has selected Dakota State's Yusuf Vinson as its Male Athlete of the Week honor, announced Monday morning.
Vinson, a 6-foot-5-inch forward from Lincoln, Neb., came off the bench to record a double-double and led the Trojans to a 61-59 victory over No. 19 Bellevue on Dec. 21. Vinson finished with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting, pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out three assists.
According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Monday, Vinson ranks 31st in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (2.9). He is 37th in total rebounds per game with an average of 8.2 rebounds, 39th in free-throw percentage (80 percent) and 49th in defensive rebounds per game (5.3).
Yusuf is the son of Stephanie Vinson. He is majoring in Physical Education at Dakota State University.
Dakota State (9-2 overall record, receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division II Men's Basketball national poll) returns back to action this week. The Trojans compete in the two-day Morningside Holiday Classic against a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) foes. DSU takes on Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Friday at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the Trojans face the host-team Morningside (Iowa) at 7:30 p.m. All games will be held at the RVSC-Allee Gym in Sioux City, Iowa.
