January 7, 2013
A.I.I. PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR PRESS RELEASE
MADISON, S.D. – The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) selected Dakota State's Cameron Krump as its Male Athlete of the Week, announced Monday morning.
Krump, a 6-foot-8-inch junior center from Colton, S.D. (graduated from Tri-Valley High School), produced a career night on Jan. 5 as the Trojan men's basketball team rallied back from 20-point deficit for a 75-69 victory over Midland (Neb.) at DSU Fieldhouse. He recorded a double-double of 17 points and pulled down 14
rebounds, which both are career highs at Dakota State. He was 7-for-9 from the field and made three free-throws in five attempts.
Dakota State trailed at 41-21 with 45 seconds left before intermission with Midland. The Trojans roared back in the second-half by shooting a sizzling 66.7 percent from the field and outscored the Warriors 52-28 in the final twenty minutes of the game.
The victory gave Dakota State their 10th win of the season. The Trojans recorded double digit victories for the fourth straight season for the first time since 1988-94 seasons (six straight seasons of double digit wins).
Krump is averaging 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Trojans this season. He is 50-for-91 from the field (54.9 percent) and 23-for-32 at the free-throw line (71.9 percent).
Cameron is the son of Wayne and Kerri Krump. He is majoring in Exercise Science at Dakota State University.
Dakota State (10-4 overall record) is scheduled to play three games this week. The Trojans welcome the nationally-ranked Dordt (Iowa) on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse. DSU travels west this weekend, visiting Oglala Lakota (S.D.) on Friday night (8 p.m. Central Time/7 p.m. Mountain Time) and South Dakota Mines on Saturday evening (6 p.m. Central Time/5 p.m. Mountain Time).
